My journey to starting my website

Just Do It. You’ve most likely heard of Nike’s famous slogan. It’s a phrase meant to encourage and provide you with a little motivation to do whatever you may have been thinking about, even if you’ve been having second (or third or fourth) thoughts about moving forward with whatever “it” is.

To kick-off my first blog post, I think it’s fitting to write about how this website came to be. So let’s take a walk down memory lane…

my first blog

Back when I was in university, I created a ‘beauty’ blog that I really enjoyed working on. This was around the time that YouTube really started blowing up and I felt like I had discovered a whole new world when I came across a community of beauty gurus who posted videos about beauty-related content. I’m pretty sure the first video I watched was, “How to create the perfect smokey eye”. It was the content I didn’t know I needed in my life. I wanted to contribute to the community, but I wasn’t comfortable talking in front of a camera, so I decided to use my creativity to design a blog to talk about my favourite products. It was a lot of fun working on my blog in my spare time and I had the opportunity to connect with a lot of cool people online. As time went on, however, I graduated from university and life continued to get busier, so I stopped focusing on my blog and that was the end of that.

Posting my first LinkedIn article

Fast forward years later, in 2019, I was inspired to randomly start writing one day. It was November 2019 and I celebrated my 5th year anniversary at the firm where I work. Not only was it a milestone anniversary, but writing about it also allowed me to look back at my journey. I decided to post my first LinkedIn article and ended up getting really positive feedback. It felt good to share my story, and I thought it might inspire others who may relate in some ways.

Getting inspired to write

In July 2020, after nearly 5 months of working from home and being in quarantine, I got inspired to start writing again. I had just finished completing a 1000-piece puzzle (a popular quarantine activity) and was inspired by the image I had completed. A bunch of broken, melting ice cream cones felt like a metaphor of how I was feeling at that time, with no end to the pandemic in sight. I just wanted to get my thoughts out, and in doing so, hoped that it would help others who were feeling down, understand they were not alone.

deciding to create my website

At the end of 2020, in the form of another LinkedIn article, I put it out to the universe that I was going to pursue my passion projects in 2021. I wanted to continue publishing articles, but on my own platform, in a more personalized way, so I finally decided to create my own website that I could call my own space.

I’ve enjoyed the journey of creating this website, down to every detail on every page. It was important to me to not set specific deadlines and rush the process. I wanted to enjoy every moment. At the end of the day, I knew I would eventually launch my website, when the time was right.

This has been an ongoing project that I’ve truly enjoyed working on, and now that I get to release it out in the world, I’m excited to continue writing.

So, now it’s you turn. If you’re looking for a little bit of motivation in your life, then I hope this provides that to you. If you’re waiting for a sign, this is it. Start right now.
